Name That Tune, Game Thirty-Two

Friday, October 3rd, 2008 by Scraps

Hey everybody, welcome to the thirty-second knuckle-popping week of Name That Tune at Popdose. By popular acclaim, here are the rules:

The Rules:

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses with the words “OFFICIAL UPDATE”.
  • The Puzzle clip may only be guessed once between updates, but may still be guessed if you have used up your regular three guesses.
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation.

How the game is played:I have uploaded twenty-six very brief song clips. Most of the songs are well known; none of them are obscure. The clips are drawn from a variety of styles and decades. It’s likely that you’ll find a few of them instantly recognizable, while a few others you won’t know at all (but other people will, and you can’t hold it against them). There are two parts to this game. The first is guessing the songs themselves. The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 26). No acrostic this time. This week, the first 25 clips all have something in common that points to the identity of the Puzzle Song. Some songs may go unguessed the first time round. If songs remain unguessed after a day, I’ll provide clues and/or upload longer clips.

And here are the clips:

Name That Tune, Game Thirty-One

Friday, September 26th, 2008 by Scraps

Hey everybody, welcome to the thirty-first scalp-scalding week of Name That Tune at Popdose. In these troubled times, a few simple rules can be a great comfort:

The Rules:

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses.
  • The Puzzle clip may only be guessed once between updates, but may still be guessed if you have used up your regular three guesses.
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation.

How the game is played: I have uploaded twenty-one very brief song clips. Most of the songs are well known; none of them are obscure. The clips are drawn from a variety of styles and decades. It’s likely that you’ll find a few of them instantly recognizable, while a few others you won’t know at all (but other people will, and they’ll probably be smug about it, too). There are two parts to this game. The first is guessing the songs themselves. The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 21). Once again, we’re doing an acrostic game: This time, the first letter of the name of the ARTIST for the first 20 clips spells out a clue to the identity of the puzzle song. (And of course, if the puzzle song is guessed early, that ought to help nail down the rest of the songs.) Some songs may go unguessed the first time round. If songs remain unguessed after a day, I’ll upload longer clips.

And here are the clips:

  1. clip 1
  2. clip 2
  3. clip 3
  4. clip 4
  5. clip 5

Name That Tune, Game Thirty

Friday, September 19th, 2008 by Scraps

Hey everybody, welcome to the thirtieth cerebrum-soothing week of Name That Tune at Popdose. To celebrate Game 30, we’ve got thirty clips. It’s a nice easy week, and the rules? well, they’re still a bit hard-assed:

How the game is played:I have uploaded thirty very brief song clips. The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 30). No acrostic this time. This week, the first 29 clips all have something in common that points to the identity of the Puzzle Song. I think they’re somewhat easier this week, which is why there are more songs; still, some songs may go unguessed the first time round. If songs remain unguessed after a day, I’ll upload longer clips.

And here are the clips:

  1. clip 1
  2. clip 2
  3. clip 3

Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Nine

Friday, September 12th, 2008 by Scraps

Hey everybody, welcome to the twenty-ninth mind-mulching week of Name That Tune at Popdose. We’ve got a few rules, but not too many:

How the game is played: I have uploaded twenty-five very brief song clips. The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 25). Once again, we’re doing an acrostic game: This time, the first letter of the name of the SONG for the first 24 clips spells out a clue to the identity of the puzzle song. (And of course, if the puzzle song is guessed early, that ought to help nail down the rest of the songs.) Some songs may go unguessed the first time round. If songs remain unguessed after a day, I’ll upload longer clips.

Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Eight: Coverville Edition

Friday, September 5th, 2008 by Scraps

Hi everyone — Brian Ibbott here from the Coverville radio show/podcast here with the twenty-eighth edition of Name That Tune. Scraps was generous enough to offer me the chance to guest host this week, and I’m honored to do so. I hope that the clips I’m presenting below are able to maintain the quality (and difficulty) that you’ve come to expect form this feature. And while I’ve got your ear, if you like rare and unusual cover versions of songs, you might like my show, which you can find at Coverville.com. And now the rules, which haven’t changed:

The Rules:

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses.
  • The Bonus may only be guessed once between updates, but may still be guessed if you have used up your regular three guesses.
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation.

How the game is played: I have uploaded twenty-three very brief song clips. Most of the songs are well known; none of them are obscure. The clips are drawn from a variety of styles and decades. It’s likely that you’ll find a few of them instantly recognizable, while a few others you won’t know at all (but other people will). There are two parts to this game. The first is guessing the songs themselves. The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 23). The second part is guessing the bonus (clip 23). And like last week, we’re looking for the first letter of the SONG TITLE for the first 22 clips. And what is the bonus? You’ll have to determine what the song title initials spell to find out. Some songs may go unguessed the first time round. If songs remain unguessed after a day, I’ll upload longer clips.

And here are the clips:

Once again, we’re doing an acrostic game: This time, the first letter of the name of the SONG for the first 22 clips spells out a clue to the identity of the puzzle song. (And of course, if the puzzle song is guessed early, that ought to help nail down the rest of the songs.)Some songs may go unguessed the first time round. Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Six

Friday, August 8th, 2008 by Scraps

Hey everybody, and I mean everybody. Welcome to the twenty-sixth ganglia-gobbling week of Name That Tune at Popdose. Stop and smell the rules:

The Rules (subject to modification in future games):

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses.
  • The Puzzle clip may only be guessed once between updates, but may still be guessed if you have used up your regular three guesses.

There are two parts to this game. The first is guessing the songs themselves. The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 30). No acrostic this time, just a theme: The 29 regular song clips have something in common that points toward the Puzzle Song. (And of course, if the puzzle song is guessed early, that ought to help nail down the rest of the songs.)

Some songs may go unguessed the first time round. If songs remain unguessed after a day, I’ll upload longer clips.

Friday, July 18th, 2008 by Scraps

Hey everybody and everysoul. Welcome to the twenty-fourth brow-furrowing week of Name That Tune at Popdose. Try not to resent the Rules:

The Rules (subject to modification in future games):

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses.
  • The Puzzle clip may only be guessed once between updates, but may still be guessed if you have used up your regular three guesses.
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation. How the game is played:

I have uploaded twenty-four very brief song clips.

The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 24). Once again, we’re doing an acrostic game: This time, the first letter of the name of the SONG for the first 23 clips spells out a clue to the identity of the puzzle song. • Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Three

Friday, July 11th, 2008 by Scraps

Hey everybody, as the Little River Band said. Welcome to the twenty-third shin-splinting week of Name That Tune at Popdose. Rules can be your friend, or just a casual acquaintance if you’re not ready for that deep a commitment:

    The Rules:

  • MAXIMUM THREE GUESSES between updates of the list, to give everyone a chance to play. An update of the list is when I post the entire list of correct guesses.
  • The Puzzle clip may only be guessed once between updates. You may guess the puzzle song if you have already made your three regular guesses.
  • While I’m not going to be a stickler for spelling and punctuation, you must guess the correct musician and song title to a close approximation. How the game is played:I have uploaded twenty-five very brief song clips. Most of the songs are well known; none of them are obscure. The clips are drawn from a variety of styles and decades. It’s likely that you’ll find a few of them instantly recognizable, while a few others you won’t know at all (but other people will, maybe even everybody else). There are two parts to this game. The first is guessing the songs themselves. The second part is guessing the puzzle song (clip 25). No acrostic this time. The first twenty-four songs have something in common that points to the identity of the puzzle song. (And of course, if the puzzle song is guessed early, that ought to help nail down the rest of the songs.)

Some songs may go unguessed the first time round. If songs remain persistently unguessed, I’ll offer clues of dubious help.
