I'm afraid I have difficulty getting excited about anything John Prine's done since the mid-1980s. The first five or six albums were mighty impressive, though. I really wanted to like this. Iris Dement is Mrs. Greg Brown, if I'm not very much mistaken.

This is sweet, corny, off-beat and off-kilter, but it's no Come Back To Us Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard. :)

Amen, brutha!

Our band (R.I.P.) covered this and it's a great, great song. Prine is classic. Check out Souvenirs or Great Days -- both have a good sampling of "hits."

Theodore Sturgeon may have said it best when he ended one of his stories so:

"And they lived happily ever after. But it wasn't easy."
