I just packed up my own drums a month ago when we got a piano. But both of my kids have expressed interest in playing them, so I know they'll be out of the garage in a couple years.

I have that black Rogers kit. It's probably from the 70s or early 80s and I got it used in San Francisco about 12 years ago. I learned on it too, but I was in my early 30s! Still, it's impossible NOT to rock on that particular set of drums because they're incedibly loud and boomy. I just set them up in the living room last month and my six-year-old is going crazy, creating all his litle drum patterns. There's something about that Rogers kit...

Excellent post. I had a remarkably similar as I'm sure countless others did around the time. My experience was circa 1982 - playing the "8th grade dance" - as an 8th grader. Though the songs were a little different, the song truly remains the same. Crazy Train, Hell Bells, Rock n' Roll All Night, Just What I Needed, etc. Anything we could manage to play without butchering (completely).

Great post! It takes me back to playing Dokken, .38 Special and, yes, Journey in my own high school multi-purpose room.

Awesome. I remember trying out for some incarnation/copy of that band, perhaps in 6th grade. I sang "Photograph" (shoot me now), and I think I was accepted, but I don't remember any practices. I remember Mike G, Craig, and mebbe Ross as the drummer?

Good times. You rock on the drums, too. Still play?
