I still like Journey, in fact I hhave recently gone back to the catalog as all their albums have great cuts that I remember fondly.

I remember the day Escape came out for radio airplay in August of 1981. Instant classic.

Dont Stop Believing, always a great tune, but it took 26 years to realize the intense build up to this song. Stephen Chase must have realized it because it made that last scene in the Sopranos make you sit on the edge of your seat…

Do you know Steve Perry's voice is awesome, but that Neil Schon is a 2 snaps up on the the guitar. Look what happened to Steve Smith. He progressed. The title cut just blew me away. The lp cover just brings that song to life

My experience with Escape also involved a trip to Ohio, to see relatives; I remember distinctly the music on the radio during that trip, from “Open Arms” to “You Make My Dreams” to Air Supply (Ohio pop stations played a LOT of soft-AC stuff, so there was a LOT of Air Supply).

But mostly, Escape was the album my brother cranked while tooling around in his silver Ford Pinto station wagon with the racing stripes and the portholes in the back. I know you want to see what that car looked like, so: go here:

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I was listening to Escape the first time I smoked pot, in somebody else's car on the way home from a football game.

Your story is a very good one. But man, you had to start shaving in 6th grade? That's early. If I were making fun of you at the time, I probably would have called you a hairy-ASS kid…but then you could have pulled out your “at least I have hair” retort, so we'd be even.
