A nice post - i find it astounding the amount of connection people find, not just to Bruce's music, but to one another through his music.

My father has always been a huge Springsteen fan, and i have grown up with his records, though not always liking them. It was when i was listening to The Rising on a family holiday to Ireland, trapped in the car with my parents and a very close friend of mine, that it all just fell into place. Bruce's music and his lyrics are so powerful, yet so personal - they just find that certain spark in us all, that helps us feel all of the things that withough him we would just bury deep down inside.

I know this has been something of a ramble, but it really is very hard to put Springsteen's majesty into words - so kudos to you for sharing your story!

Beautiful writing Scott. I've been a Bruce fan since 1974. To be honest, I thought that "The Rising" was somewhat overwrought in terms of production. There were certainly great songs though.

My best friend died a few years ago. He was my Bobby Jean. We played in our first band together, and we saw Bruce for the first time together. He blew us away that night. When Larry died, I sat with while waiting for the hearse to come and take him away. His sister had put on a tape of his favorite music to comfort him in his last moments. At one point, it was just me and Larry. "Further On (Up the Road)" came on. It was all at one time a terrible moment, and one of the most comforting that I have ever experienced.

Beautiful. I agree that this album has a special healing quality. After being displaced by Hurricane Katrina, 'My City of Ruins' was a wonderful salve.

I concur: Beautifully written and thanks for sharing. I feel like I might just go pick up that album today. Maybe listen to more Springsteen...

That was so beautifully written. Having just lost a brother, this was particularly meaningful. Thanks.
