and have you heard "The Song of the Siren" another Plant piece that evokes so much. He didn't write it but I love the way he does it...
now this is one song that like you say is a parasite on the brain- can't get enough of it- want to listen to it over and over again.
Love Robert's voice, his expression, his everything--what can I say?!

It was actually "Now and Zen" that he used Zep samples for "Tall Cool One." At that point in time, classic rock became the new mainstream and leading the charge was Get the Led Out. Funny that a band that received hardly any radio play in their heyday were suddenly on every frickin hour! Plant embraced this new fame... no, he leaped on it and became a rock god again for about five years. By the time "Fate of Nations" was release, alternative music was now the new mainstream, which seemed to allow Plant to go back and experiment in the studio once again.

On Manic Nirvana did he not use samples of Led Zep? That was a sign of the times. I think he was annoyed at the beastie boys getting all the hits using them.

I'm a big a fan of all his post Zeppelin music, EXCEPT his studio album with Page, which I find atrocious. The last two solo albums were quite good; check out a song called "All the King's Horses" from MIGHTY REARRANGER, and the entire duet project with Alison Krauss is simply wonderful. I, too, have always loved "Far Post" and owned the WHITE NIGHTS soundtrack primarily for the Plant song (there was a decent John Hiatt song, as well). I was glad that it finally got rereleased.

I have a thing for the song "Far Post". It was played (a lot) on rock radio when "Pictures At Eleven" came out, but wasn't on the album. Turns out it was only on the UK version. Later on it wound up on the "White Nights" Soundtrack (YUCK.) and was, a couple years ago, finally included on Rhino's reissue of "Eleven".

Great story. I'm hard-pressed to think of a solo career (post-legendary band) more consistently satisfying than Robert Plant's. Fate of Nations and Principle of Moments are easily two of my most cherished albums.

And I too was mesmerized by Big Log (through the video). Still am.
