I cannot fucking STAND “Love Shack” anymore. “Roam” is a great song but I'm sort of over it. I daresay it's not as underappreciated as you think, still gets a fair bit of airplay in these parts.

As for “Rock Lobster”…GREAT song. I went through a long period of being over it, but have fallen in love with it again in the not too distant past.

“Private Idaho” is still my favorite B-52s song though!

If it's blasphemous, then I'll be a sinner with you. In 2007, Rock Lobster was used in a dance routine at my kids' studio. The tweenies thought it was cool and wildly different.. so I guess that helps to explain why it endures. For me, the classic B-52's song is either Lava or Private Idaho, or something off Whammy. Rock Lobster is too novelty.

Elementary school?!? Geez, I'm old… I remember dancing to “Rock Lobster” in high school! It was so different from anything we'd ever heard before.

OK, so I'm sure this is complete and utter blashepmy among the devoted but I've always thought Rock Lobster was weird and overrated. For my money, The B-52's real classics are the overplayed Love Shack and the underappreciated Roam.

My brother and I videotaped that SNL with the B-52s on it and played it to death. The roar of the crowd when they finished “Rock Lobster” is the loudest ovation I've ever heard from an SNL crowd.
