I like the song too and I think its great how it makes an emotional connection for you. We all have those moments in our lives and a certain song or smell or photo can bring us back to that moment instantly. Pretty cool. My wife says that we store up these memories in a treasure chest in heaven and we get to pull them out to relive over and over again some day. I hope she's right.

Hey Jon,
I am sure you've heard the Shawn Colvin version of "I Don't Want ti Live on the Moon." It's a (sort of) duet with Ernie from the "Elmopalooza" video/soundtrack.

I think more men tear up at the first notes of evocative music than let on. I think men like/need to cry. How else can you explain the popularity of "The Shawshank Redemption"?

Hey Scott,
Thanks again for your insight. This is another one of those songs that, like you said, is the backdrop for grocery stores and montages. I would have never 'noticed' it if you hadn't brought it to my attention. A lot of great music is like that. It just weaves it's way into our psyches unnoticed.

My son's name is Jacob, too, and there but for the grace...you know. My wife and I tear up at many songs from our Jacob's early childhood--most prominently the Sesame Street song "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon," which we associate with our decision to move to London at the end of the 1990s. At first we sang it to him to assure him we weren't leaving his family and friends in the US forever; later, it came to represent our memories of living in England, which both my wife and I still recall as the greatest experience of our lives.

Men who weep at the first notes of an evocative song, unite! And if anyone dares mock us, we'll kick your ass in.
