My only explanation would be that Mallrats was made for Universal, where the rest were under the old Weinstein-run Miramax.

It would make more sense to me to pair Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy in one set – Jay and Bob feels like the movie out of place in this set for me. Good to know all of the bonus features that are not in this set – since I've already got all three of these movies, I'll probably pass – even on Amy. I fell behind on watching all of the bonus features on Smith flicks with the DVD release of Amy – so until I actually catch up on what I own, I'll be skipping the Amy Blu-ray upgrade!

Clerks is a movie that got by on the weight of it's initial accomplishment, being a totem for independent filmmakers to show you could actually do it on a shoestring and, famously, have a hit with it. Over time, what you're left with is a party movie, which isn't a put-down. If you pop this movie in after everyone's killed the snack tray and zoned in on a bit of a beer buzz, people will stop and still laugh. It's crude, but it's funny.

Now, contrast that with Dazed And Confused, also a party movie but one with a little more cinematic merit and the cracks in Clerks peer through.
