While the content of this set is impressive, I can't help commenting that the packaging for the Blu-Ray is insane! The box that contanes the download card and the Cantubury set is a mother to pull out. The book, once unwrapped, if put back into the slot, is like a game of "Operation" to try to get out. This does not even begin to describe the unreasonable aggrevation of not having the mp3 download link ready to go. As of this posting, the website has taken down any proposed date for access! Being one who owns all of Young's (essensial) previous commercial relases, I don't know if investing in any further work is really worth it given the agrrevation involved. I don't think Young cares for his fans as much as he'd like us to believe.

Great review of Neil Young's "Archives." In fact, it's the only review I've read so far which actually made me want to own a copy. But I'm still too cheap.

I would at least go for the DVD set, since as a Neil fan, you MUST have the video components. I know it's expensive. Yes, I got my set as a promo, but I BOUGHT a Blu-ray player just for this purpose. Yes, I'd been wanting one, but this pushed me over.

No, now I don't think I've seen it all. I've been reading other reports, and there's still more for me to check out. So I'll be going back to it again.

I'm envious and impressed that you got through it all Ken. (You sure? I hear there are just a billion places to go). And thanks for posting so much about it.
I'm a Neil Young die hard - one of the very few artists that I like before my '80s....I own all the Buffalo Springfield and CSNY albums and every one of his albums. As a completist I feel I need this, but I don't own a Blu-Ray player and I can't really afford to spend $200 on this right now. So it comes down to the CD's which I can afford. But I'm torn on that. Everything I hear and of course reading this now screams at me that I'm missing so much by just getting the CD version (not only the videos, but the easter eggs, probably the hidden tracks as well..) But then again while some of this is super rare, I own a good percentage of this already as well. So am I really going to spend almost triple the price for the DVDs when I'm not getting 10 discs really - more like 6 or so when you take out what I own?

I don't know what the hell to do at this point. If it was all unreleased I don't think I'd be questioning it. But as it is, I need to hear it but there's no way of purchasing this that seems right to me.
