Stoltz politely declined, but insisted Crowe cast John Cusack in the role. He agreed do uncredited work to demonstrate his faith in his recommendation, as well as the project. <br><br>Whether this story is accurate or not, it's nigh impossible to imagine Eric Stoltz turning up "Within Your Reach," hanging out at the Gas 'n Sip or delivering the sold/bought/processed speech at this point, isn't it? As Crowe's first directorial gig, he probably wanted to surround himself with people he knew and trusted.
