My favorite band.. the joy of their live shows (and many of their records) has been life-enriching.
Despite the occasional reunion show up in Massachusetts, it's my understanding that the group finally shut it down..sad for anyone who loves what they did.

“Kids in Philly” blew me away five years ago after I discovered who they were, and I think “Float Away With the Friday Night Gods” is a stronger album than subsequent ones where they retreated back to a scruffier sound. But I also feel like they're posing sometimes, as if they're really just nice white boys from Philadelphia who can't stand the fact that they're nice white boys.

The Q have long held a special place in my heart. They played in my area twice in a six month period some years back. The first show, in a club with maybe 70 people in it, was a revelation. I stood down front, alone, swilling Heineken after Heineken, dancing awkwardly, shouting out requests, several of which the band played ("I Want You Bad" never sounded better). After the show, buzzed from the music as much as the beer, I wrangled my way backstage (actually, down to the basement), and shook hands with the band. Their backstage catering? A single Domino's pizza. Joey Spampinato is a lot shorter than I'd imagined. Tom Ardolino is funny and friendly, just like you figure he'd be. But Terry Adams is the coolest cat in the room, regardless of what room he's in.

Thanks for the boot, Cass. My Friday night just improved a great deal.
