Bottom Feeders: The Ass End of the ’90s, Vol. 3

Dave Steed January 23, 2012 17

Section 4: Bubbling Under

A.L.T. and the Lost Civilization bubbled under at #121 with “All Nite Long.”

Tori Amos bubbled under four times with “Cornflake Girl” “Talula” “Professional Widow” and “In the Springtime Of His Voodoo”

John Anderson’s “Somebody Slap Me” bubbled under in 1997 which was 14 years after his only Hot 100 hit.

Jessica Andrews bubbled under twice in 1999 with “I Will Be There For You” and “You Go First”

Angelina’s “Mambo” hit #102 in 1998

Antuan & Ray Ray featuring the Biv 10 Pee Wee All*Stars “peaked” at the very bottom of the bubbling under chart with “Dance Wit Me” for just one week, making this song a true Bottom Feeder.

Tina Arena bubbled under in 1996 with “Show Me Heaven.”

Was “Silent All These Years” re-released at some point?  I clearly remember it being a single off Tori’s debut, “Little Earthquakes” (1992).

Yes, it was re-released. Amos did a concert promoting the charity RAINN which helps rape survivors. They reissued the song with a live version from the concert on the B-side, and that’s what charted.

To pick a very small nit, “The Tide Is High” was originally by a reggae band called The Paragons; Blondie’s version was also a cover.

Both of those Adam Ant singles that hit the top 40 were quite good, IMHO. Shame he wasn’t able to sustain the success either time.

I remember liking the Leah Andreone record; we’ll see if I still do. B^)

When i heard Tori Amos’s “Cornflake Girl” I was convinced for the longest time that she was saying “Rabbi, Where did yuou put the keys.?”….until I found out it was Rabbit…

Her song Spark is probably the last track that I like of hers..everything else she went downhill from there.

XL-106.7 used to play “Speed”, occasionally throwing in the “Hardcore” mix which uses samples to simulate sex between Speed and Trixie about midway through (yes, seriously).  It’s hilarious and available on the CD single if you can track one down.  Wild 94.1 also uses a brief clip of the song as the bed for their PM drive traffic reports.

Those are Orlando and Tampa stations, FYI…

That’s fantastic.  Funny as hell. A lot of people seem to have been excited to see this one show up so I’m surprised no one uses it here (outside Philly)

So clearly I love this week, considering I own almost all of these artists’ albums, and the albums by four of the acts mentioned (Ana, Around The Way, April & Angelica) are featured on my blog, with Amber and Angelina likely future candidates.  And what’s up with one-named ‘A’ ladies anyway?  :P   I have a feeling each week’s letter will feature more of the same.  Bring it on! ;)

“Speed” was also a minor hit on Houston radio alongside such other tech-novelties as “Sesame’s Treet”. (Both have gotten Sound Awake love, too.)

Glad I could offer some Anything Box insight. Both “Oblivion” and the followup single, “Jubilation (This Thing Called Life)” make the Club Hour rounds.

I had that Leah Andreone single, believe it was a .99 promotion. I got Alchemy thru the station and kept it for two months max.

I lost track of Popdose for a couple of years, but it’s nice to rediscover the site and find you’re still doing the almighty Bottom Feeders! Keep up the great work! Now I just have to find a good opening to post “Suck it, Tommy Shaw!”

I’ve grabbed the Angelica – curious to see what a full album sounds like.

Maybe I’ll have to keep a running count of 1 named ladies.

★★★★★ My friends told me about—onenightcupid.c-0-m—. She told me it is the best place to seek casual fun and short-term relationship. I have tried. It is fantastic! Tens of thousands cute guys and pretty girls are active there. You wanna get laid tonight? Come in and give it a shot, you will find someone you like there. Have fun! ^_^

Lord…Angelina. Freestyle will never die, eh?

The college station I worked at in Syracuse played that Ana record for about a week. I kept thinking there’s an NKOTB connection, so I looked it up, and she did release a duet with Jordan Knight and was produced by Maurice Starr.

I was obsessed with “Speed” for about a month. The sex version got play in NY too.
