Dave Steed is all about music; 80's and metal to be exact. His iPod will shuffle from Culture Club to Slayer and he won't blink an eye. He's never heard Astral Weeks but thinks "Dazzey Duks" by Duice is the bomb. It's an odd little corner of the world he lives in.

I am surprised that you never heard Dr. Alban’s “it’s my life”. It was massive in this neck of the woods. I am pretty sure it still gets a lot of radio airplay in oldies stations. This might be related with the fact that over here, there was almost no hip hop, rnb or country music played on the air, so I had hardly ever heard of every other band here except for Duran Duran.

The cassette/cd single of Dog’s Eye View’s Small Wonders featured a “stripped” version of Everything Falls Apart, which times out to 4:44

  • SuperChris

Ugh. Possibly one of the worst weeks featured so far? Why so many hip-hop and R&B acts starting with “D”? I can’t say anything positive about any of these save Duran Duran and Dr. Alban. And surprisingly no charting for Dr. Alban’s “Sing Hallelujah”, which is one of the best Eurodance tracks ever!!

Dr. Dre (not to be confused with Doctor Dre) also hit the Top 40 with “Dre Day” and the classic “Nuthin’ But A G Thang” (unless you’re saving mention of those for your Snoop Dogg recap)…

It’s a bad week. I almost didn’t want to post it. I think it’s the worst week so far for sure.

Whoops, I missed a section of Dre because they are labeled in different sections in the Billboard Hot 100 book. “Still D.R.E” hit #93 and should have been here. But, I’ll put that and the other two in Snoop section. Puff away.

I have to agree – wow, what a bad week. I’m downloading all of the songs for my library but I felt a sense of uselessness as I did it this week, thinking I’ll never listen to these songs. LOL And Dave, we talked about this – we lived in different worlds in the ’90s. I heard “It’s My Life” all the time at the clubs!

Gotta add my name to those who remember “It’s My Life”. Not only was it popular in Houston, but Dr. Alban’s first American single, “No Coke”, got some club and radio play when it was still an import.

“Electric Barbarella” gets the weekly prize almost by default. It’s my favorite of the three D2 entries, though I was surprised to not see “Out of My Mind” in the airplay section. Must be another Houston thing. As for Liberty, there’s always “Serious”.

I have to give a shout out to “So in Love With You” in the Bubbling Under department. I only heard it on the radio after purchasing the single; one of our local chains used to have 5-disc listening stations for CD singles as well as full-lengths, that’s what sold me.

Thanks. Interesting. The version on ITunes as part of the album is not the version here, so I though the opposite happened. I’ll have to track down this version and see if it’s the same.

And I’m assuming since neither you or KofG said anything, that this is the right version of “It’s My Life” and not some remix…. on paper I thought I would know it and it does sort of baffle me why something that everyone else seems to know, I’ve never heard.

I love the Wedding Album from from to back and although “Too Much Information” isn’t the best song they ever wrote, I still think it’s hands above “Electric Barbarella” which often seems pretty dull to me.

And I miss the local CD stores with 5 CD stations. I only know of three used CD stores in my area – one has no turnover at all and the other sells used CD’s for 11.99. Ludacris.

  • Frank

Yes, from listening to the intro, it appears to the be the correct version. I didn’t download it since I already own it. :)

Weeks like this are the whole reason Napster was invented. Anyone who actually purchased this stuff had buyer’s remorse in less than a week.

  • NastyG

Totally agree. Worst week yet. :( And I too would have thought Sing Hallelujah would have been the bigger hit, but both tracks got tons of play here in Toronto.

    Fo shizzle!
