So…what you're saying Dw is that you're NOT a fan of bold tastes when it comes to bourbon.

You had a couple of tricksters in the family, didn't you. I don't know if I would pull something like that on an 11 year old, but it was a another time and place when you grandfather and uncle did that to you. I seem to remember having my first beer at 11 — but it was only a couple of sips and it was Hamm's Beer. Blech.

You've done it. You've created a column I can't contribute to in any way, shape or form.

But I will tell a tale about my grandfather and uncle, both enjoying a shot of whiskey on a Saturday afternoon, as was their custom. I was probably 11 years old and joined in with a shot glass of Welch's white grape juice. Well my uncle, occasionally a trickster, switched his glass of whiskey for my grape juice while I wasn't looking.

Now, if you tried this on me today I would know that whiskey, even the cheap stuff, is a lot browner than grape juice, but at that age I was hardly a liquor gourmand. So I took that shot and - bam! - my head exploded all over the kitchen table. (Well not quite, but it FELT like it did. Fire water, indeed.)

My grandfather and uncle laughed their asses clean off.

Awesome new feature, Ted! I don't have much experience with bourbon myself (my favorite “sipping” beverages are currently Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch and Jameson Irish Whiskey). I will have to give Woodford Reserve a try!
