Popdose is sad to report the confirmed passing of actress Carrie Fisher, best known and loved as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movie franchise. She was 60 years old. Ms. Fisher had suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles late last week and had been in critical condition since. The announcement came from her daughter, Billie Lourd:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” reads the statement followed by “she was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” said Ms. Lourd. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Ms. Fisher shot to international stardom with the worldwide blockbuster success of the first Star Wars movie in 1977; she went on to have a stellar movie career, appearing in such hits as When Harry Met Sally and The Blues Brothers. She was also a very successful author, most notably for Postcards From The Edge. She was the daughter of famed singer Eddie Fisher and actress/singer Debbie Reynolds.
