While it includes references to liquor its about shooting dope. How else would he have shot blood at a fly on the wall, without being high ans using a syringe to do so? There's blood in the tea cup and blood on the dishes in the sink? Where did it come from?

You've missed the point if you think that Last Shot is about recovering alcholics. I have to say the remaster is poor, just a bit louder, highly compressed and the voice mixed into the background. People should not buy crap like that!!

I don't think that the reissue of Legendary Hearts benefits from improved sound quality. It's a weird album compared to most of his catalog, although it makes sense when compared with Mistrial. I used to play Fly Into the Sun at acoustic shows, to the consternation of the audience. The album is fine stuff all the way through, especially side two, and I Love You Suzanne is the most insanely addictive thing he ever wrote. Legendary Hearts took a while to find back in the time of Reagan, but when I did find it, I listened a few times to make sure it was the same Lou. Then again, I did the same thing with Berlin.

Maybe it's a sentimental favorite since it was my first Lou Reed album, but I can listen to New Sensations anytime. Reed kept Saunders around for a few more years and albums (New Sensations, Mistrial, Live in Italy), but never really repeated the magic they found on Blue Mask and Legendary Hearts...

Bassist Fernando Saunder's signature fretless sound are what I really love about both the Blue Mask and Legendary Hearts (not to mention Robert Quine's excellent guitar work). The words "when new wave happens to old people" somehow come to mind.

“I Love You, Suzanne” is a catchy tune, but the Footloose-inspired video is not entirely intentionally hilarious.
