I've been following her since Plantation Lullabies (Dred loc) at was at her performance at Black Cat on Oct 8th. She was AWESOME! She deconstructed Dead Nigga Blvd and I was absolutely transfixed by her and her band. Mass Transit and White Girl ,OMG do I need to say anything more about guitarist Chris? I used to own a RFTW album, her remake is hot! I have so many of her songs on my MP3 I can't list them all here but songs from Devil's Halo are new added additions! Meshell is sooo underated! The two songs currently on heaviest rotation on my iPod just happen to be by MeShell Ndegeocello: her gorgeous rendition of Hendrix's "May This Be Love" (from her album "Bitter") and the jazz-inspired "Heaven" (which features the late Donny Hathaway's daughter, Lalah Hathaway on vocals, from "The Spirit Music Jamai"). <br><br>I wholeheartedly agree with you that she is is perhaps the most overlooked and underrated artist — in any musical genre — of the past 20 years. <br><br>Nice article. However, the albums are different enough that you almost wonder if it was the same artist that recorded both! I don't think Joe Henry would have fit very well on "Plantation Lullabies"! At any rate, this new album is much closer, instrumentally speaking, to "Bitter". Pick it up, though.
