According to most sources Debbie Allen performed Footloose at the Oscars. How come Kenny didn't get to perform it? Was it the same reason that Phil Collins didn't get to hear his song performed.
Maybe most of the singers and dancers were from the East Coast...

[...] Jeez, I haven’t covered 1984 in six weeks, and yet "Hello" is still on the charts. I can’t find a damn thing to say about it that I haven’t said before, so if you’re new to CHART ATTACK!, check out #29, where you can see the video and even hear Mike and I perform a snippet as part of our Acoustic ’80s set.6. The Heart Of Rock & Roll – Huey Lewis and the News [...]

I never knew "Love Somebody" made the charts. That is one of my favorite Springfield songs of all time (yes, I have a few favs). I love the drum part when they break it down to the chorus. YOU BETTER LOVE SOMEBODY (BEAT! BEAT! BEAT!) There were so many Rick songs that blew "Jessie's Girl" out of the water. This was one of em.

WOW!!!!!!
Here I am 41 years old today and you have found a genre of music that I loved and listened to during that decade. I remember all or those songs by heart word for word. Thanks for taking me back to a less stressed, more fun era.

I'm going to share this, even though I shouldn't. For years now, I've sung this version of the Thompson Twins song:

Hold my cow, ohhhhh milk it now.
Bring cookies, let dunking start.

Yup.

Great write-up. I bought the Thompson Twins album on the strength of a recommendation in the Wall Street Journal. Well, we had no Hype Machine or music blogs back then.

This was, indeed, a pretty damn good week in pop music. I'm glad to see "Love Somebody" get the love it deserves. Rick Springfield, power pop genius!

Nice to hear "Hello" turned into a rocker. We need to hear more live performance clips, Jason!
