Poor Minnie Ripperton. Now Paul Davis... So many one hit wonders have left us too early. Well I guess if there's a Mellow Gold Paradise then you've know they'd got one helluva band (or singers)
Black Water is one of my least favorite Doobie Brother numbers. I preferred the McDonald era.

Is it just me, or did Heart's 1976 "Dreamboat Annie" debut album ...shall we say... ~borrow~ from Phoebe Snow? They sound really similar to me, in content and style. (Or is this really obvious to everyone and I'm just late.)

I had a hell of time trying to track down exactly which ones, no luck other than some vague reference to an AT&T commercial. Apparently she doesn't feel it's worth detailing her commercial work on her web site, and nobody else has bothered to do it either.

I have to see that Stevie Wonder "Perfect Angel" Soul Train performance! Must have been SWEET!

I seem to remember the closing credits to "Soul Train" used "Express" (after the line dance) to send you on your funky way. A cute animated steam engine puffed along to the beat. Great show, responsible for releasing a lot of feel-good endorphins in its television audience.

Michael, your Minnie Riperton guide for Jefitoblog last summer proved to me how much good music she made, so thank you for that. A few months ago the "Soul Train" tribute to Riperton, from September 15, 1979, was re-run as part of "The Best of Soul Train"; apparently that episode features one of the few instances of an artist actually singing on the show, not lip-synching -- in this case it was Stevie Wonder singing "Perfect Angel."

Phoebe Snow's song "If I Can Just Get Through the Night," from 1989, is just as good as "Poetry Man," in my opinion. I've loved that song since I first heard it on the radio at the age of 13.

Ah, "Moonlight Feels Right." The best marimba solo ever recorded.

Makes you wonder what else that guy did in the band, though. Can't just wait around for the next marimba solo.
