Kokomo is another cheesy song everyone loves to hate. Very sad, so sad that people would trash such a great song!

Nah, it's not too embarrassing -- as long as we stipulate that it's his production of others' work, not his own stuff. (shudder)Madonna's "Take A Bow," yes? yes?

I actually agree with you, Elaine. I'm not the biggest fan of Cyndi Lauper's voice, and yeah, I am a sucker for some of the songs produced by Babyface, especially if they have his backing vocals on them...I'm thinking of this one and "Change The World" by Clapton.

Maybe we shouldn't have admitted this in public...?

Speaking of covers by Phil Collins, you're gonna hate this, but I enjoy listening to his version of "True Colors" better than Cyndi Lauper's. I don't know why. I just like it. It was Babyface'd, right? Smooooth.

Whew...memories of "Kokomo" hitting number 1 while "Love and Mercy" bombed just made me break out in a cold sweat...still unbelieveable.

ah, now you're reminding me of college, and dancing with boys...
I'd sing the chorus of what's on your mind to the guy I was crazy for, and he'd never answer.
Man, being afraid to talk really had it's drawbacks

I don't think it's any mistake that UB40 had no hits here that weren't covers, despite writing solid original singles like "Food For Thought" and "Tyler" (and they did some better covers than most of the ones that were hits, too; "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" in particular). Americans mostly aren't interested in reggae except Bob Marley unless it has novelty value; cover songs done reggae-style counts.
