One day while working my 2nd floor info post at Borders a number of jobs ago, I got a little bored. I decided to break the store record for playing the same song continuously held by the “Badge of Honor” theme from the LA Confidential soundtrack – one hour, twenty minutes.

I clocked in two and a half hours of Chuck Mangione's “Feels So Good”. And I gotta say that by the hour and 45 minutes mark, I really got to a nice, happy place. Not one customer noticed or complained, so I clearly wasn't alone in that warm good feeling.

Didn't U2 record “Angel of Harlem” at Sun Studios, or at least play it there in the film? I saw it as a touchstone of the whole “exploring America” theme of “Rattle & Hum,” and I like the Memphis Horns homage, and it's just a snappy little tune, dammit! I couldn't stand “All I Want Is You” at the time–and I REALLY couldn't stand the video–but I appreciate it more now. They've been showing Rattle & Hum on VH1 Classic lately; I thought it was great back in '88, but it's pure shite now. “Am I buggin' you? Ah don't mean to boog ya.”

You guys need to cowboy up and see Deliverance. Don't worry–the three-toothed guy who reams poor Ned Beatty eventually gets a crossbow arrow in the eye, or something like that. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll cheer…you'll squirm. Take it like a man!

If that's true, getting stoned was the first and last cool thing Vanessa Carlton ever did...

I remember requesting Semi-charmed life a while back on the old site because I wanted to see what you guys thought of it. I was happy to see at least a couple of people come to 3eb's defense if only somewhat. I agree with most of the negative comments made here about them, but I think despite themselves they do sometimes wrirte really good songs.

And the comments about picking up their first album somewhere for a dollar; I second that emotion. It really is a good album if you can put your built in hatred for this band on hold. Since Semi Charmed... is a million times more bubblegummy than Walk on The Wild Side, I think a lot of people don't realize how much of an obvious Lou Reed homage that is (Doo-Doo-Doo and the fucked up drugs subject nature), and in fact there are a couple of songs on their first album that are basically Lou Reed re-writes/ripoffs, whatever you want to call them. The second song on that debut LP 'Narcolepsy' is very "Heroin"ish and it's a really good song on it's own, I think.

Excoriate you I will not. Achtung Baby is still my favorite, but I definitely feel that Unforgettable Fire was unfairly maligned.
