That second TTD album was a cut-out bin staple for a good ten years after the fact. No matter where you looked, there it was. It's ubiquitousness was only rivalled by 'The Time' by Bros.

It's not on DVD yet? But it's got Julia and Liam in it before they were stars! That really surprises me. Plus Britta's sort of a name now too.

Actually, Terence Trent D'Arby wasn't British. According to the Sananda Maitreya Wikipedia entry, he was born Terence Trent Howard in NYC. After serving in the U.S. Army in Germany he ended up in London and launched his recording career there.
I guess he does have a bit of a British accent, but nothing compared to, say, Madonna.

"She Kissed Me" is an underrated TTD effort. He had a lot more good work in him, I thought.

Pink Floyd as of "The Final Cut," on the other hand, did not. As others have said, it was pretty much Waters ranting about his father being killed in the war, the empty life of rock stardom, his father being killed in the war, his scorn for the disciplinary philosophy of English society, the empty life of rock stardom and his father being killed in the way. "The Wall" pretty much wrung out the last Waters really had to offer on that front, so I never minded Gilmour's Floyd.

I'm a little biased here because "Momentary Lapse" came out just as I got to college. I saw Floyd twice on that tour and loved it (though the closest I've ever come to being high was when I saw Floyd indoors early in that tour), and I had the album cover poster on my dorm-room wall. Beautiful stuff. Loved "Learning to Fly," "On the Turning Away" and "Sorrow."

"Division Bell" was a little weaker, though I know some people swear by it. "Take It Back" was pretty good. This one is a great concept -- love the Hawking cameo -- with terrific guitar as always, but yes, the occasional lyrical clunker stands out. Still better than Waters, who was neck-deep in narcissism at that point and recording crap like "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking." Talk about lyrical clunkers.

A Justine Bateman moment! I'm going to quote from my favorite film book of all time: "Pretty In Pink - The Golden Age of Teenage Movies" by Jonathan Bernstein (out of print):
[on the failure of "Satisfaction" at the box offce] - Why would someone willingly take on the role of the firebrand front-person of a live-wire, right-in-the-socket, down-and-dirty bar band when she can't sing? When I say can't sing, I don't mean not-trained-in-the-classical-sense-but-filled-with-character can't sing, I mean the drunk-at-the-wedding-no-pitch-no-rhythm-no-control can't sing. And there's Mallory coughing into the microphone and making a starry-eyed convert of Liam Neeson, supposedly a dissolute former Grammy-winning songwriter. ...when she's done trying to dislodge the piece of brisket stuck down her throat, he gives her this moist look and says, "There nothing more I can teach you."

Bernstein also writes that Julia Roberts effortlessly steals every scene in the grim role as the band's sex-addict bass player. I wish I could see this terrible film! Someone must own the VHS somewhere.

Are you sure the first clip isn't Laserium: Pink Floyd Night?
http://www.laserium.com/gallery/index.html

TTD still sounds great. I remember his Rolling Stone profile described his eyes as spooky since the whites showed so prominantly beneath the irises--suggesting he might have been misaligned with the cosmos or some such thing--Rolling Stone was like an oracle of information.
