Cover Me, Game Thirty-Three

Below are magnified fragments of album covers. Most of them are well-known albums, but there are a few obscure covers (or lesser-known albums from well-known artists) mixed in to keep you honest. You must guess both the artist and album cover. In order to keep things simple, live albums, soundtracks and singles compilations will not be used, and with all apologies to our European and Japanese friends, we are going with the covers that appeared in the US record stores…back when we had record stores. Sigh.

The rules are the same as Name That Tune. Each player can make three guesses between updates (“Update” is defined as “The time when I post a comment listing all of the covers that have been guessed correctly”), so everyone will have a chance to contribute. And, just to spice things up, we have a puzzle cover this week, yay! One guess per player of the puzzle between updates, please.

There is no acrostic this week, but there is a flagrant violation of one of the rules listed above. Good luck!

Lastly, the Puzzle Cover

All guesses so far are correct.
  • Seeing how I have both the DVD and the soundtrack album, I'm surprised I only recognized it after Pretty in Pink and Coolworld, neither of which I've seen.

And I'm kicking myself for not recognizing the Canadian helicopter on #21, or the 80s hair in #18.

  • John Q.
24 is the Josh Charles classic "Threesome".
  • John Q.
And the puzzle is "Excess Baggage"?
  • Threesome is correct. Excess Baggage is incorrect.

I actually can't tell you anything about the movie for the puzzle cover, but the second I saw the track listing, I bought it. A unique compilation, to be sure.
  • Here's your clue for the puzzle cover:

It is, as far as I know, the only soundtrack that Astralwerks has ever released.
  • RLB
Ah - well that makes it googly-simple. "Splendor." (I was convinced that was a punk's 'do - alas.)
  • Splendor it is, and a mighty fine soundtrack it is at that.

Thanks everyone, and I'll see you next week.
  • Songs from Cool World is actually No. 9, which also violates the rules, right?
