Cover Me, Game Twenty-Nine

David Medsker March 30, 2009 45

Below are magnified fragments of album covers. Most of them are well-known albums, but there are a few obscure covers (or lesser-known albums from well-known artists) mixed in to keep you honest. You must guess both the artist and album cover. In order to keep things simple, live albums, soundtracks and singles compilations will not be used, and with all apologies to our European and Japanese friends, we are going with the covers that appeared in the US record stores…back when we had record stores. Sigh.

The rules are the same as Name That Tune. Each player can make three guesses between updates (“Update” is defined as “The time when I post a comment listing all of the covers that have been guessed correctly”), so everyone will have a chance to contribute. And, just to spice things up, we have a puzzle cover this week, yay! One guess per player of the puzzle between updates, please.

There is no acrostic this week, but there is definitely a theme. Good luck!

Well hello #6! I don't know ye, but I'd like to get to know ya better…
(I take it back if that ends up being some guy in drag)

  • http://www.bullz-eye.com DavidMedsker

Definitely not a guy in drag.

  • ZosoDef

    5. Boomtown Rats – A Tonic for the Troops

  • http://www.bullz-eye.com DavidMedsker

Boomtown Rats is correct. Here are your Tuesday CLUES:

    3. John Hughes wrote a “Lost in the '90s” column on this band.
    6. They teamed up with Iggy Pop a couple years ago.
    7. Bad metal band.
    11. Early '90s UK indie rockers
    15. '80s supergroup
    24. Scored a massive alt rock hit in 1991. Singer died a few years later, though not in the traditional rock star manner.
    25. I can't really tell you anything about this band, except that I could have used them for last week's quiz as well.
Puzzle: I'm a right bastard for including this one. I just remember the name when they came out and how unoriginal it was. There is one word in their name that has been used by messiahs and…trees.
