Cover Me, Game Twenty-One

David Medsker February 2, 2009 36

I need to see some ID before you can play this game. Oh, who am I kidding, there can’t be anyone under the age of 30 playing this, is there? No, seriously, is there? I’d love to know.

Below are magnified fragments of 25 album covers. Most of them are well-known albums, but there are a few obscure covers (or lesser-known albums from well-known artists) mixed in to keep you honest. You must guess both the artist and album cover. In order to keep things simple, live albums, soundtracks and singles compilations will not be used, and with all apologies to our European and Japanese friends, we are going with the covers that appeared in the US record stores…back when we had record stores. Sigh.

The rules are the same as Name That Tune. Each player can make three guesses between updates (“Update” is defined as “The time when I post a comment listing all of the covers that have been guessed correctly”), so everyone will have a chance to contribute. And, for the first time ever, there is an acrostic, yay! The FIRST letter to each band or artist’s name will spell out a clue as to the puzzle cover’s identity. The clue is dead simple, too, because, well, I’m not a smart man. Enjoy!

Son of a bitch. This morning I was saying to myself, you really need to make the puzzle cover harder. Make them figure out the acrostic first. Then the morning got away from me, and I had to see a movie (Coraline, awesome but super creepy). And now, boom, my weakness has been exposed.

Franz Ferdinand is correct, as are the other guesses.

  • http://www.bullz-eye.com DavidMedsker

Sorry, more guesses came in as I wrote that. Roxy Music is incorrect. Everything else is correct.

  • http://www.ooblick.com/weblog/ arensb

I want to say that #3 is Lou Reed, because I think he has an exclusive monopoly on wearing shades on album covers. But I can't come up with an album.

    3. Screaming Blue Messiahs – Bikini Red

    17. Randy Newman – LIttle Criminals
