Cover Me, Game Twenty-Six

David Medsker March 9, 2009 43

Q: Why aren’t there any jokes about Guyana?
A: The punch line’s too long.

Thanks, I’m here all week.

Below are magnified fragments of album covers. Most of them are well-known albums, but there are a few obscure covers (or lesser-known albums from well-known artists) mixed in to keep you honest. You must guess both the artist and album cover. In order to keep things simple, live albums, soundtracks and singles compilations will not be used, and with all apologies to our European and Japanese friends, we are going with the covers that appeared in the US record stores…back when we had record stores. Sigh.

The rules are the same as Name That Tune. Each player can make three guesses between updates (“Update” is defined as “The time when I post a comment listing all of the covers that have been guessed correctly”), so everyone will have a chance to contribute. And, just to spice things up, we have a puzzle cover this week, yay! One guess per player of the puzzle between updates, please.

Also there is an acrostic this week. The FIRST letter to each band or artist’s name will spell out a clue as to the puzzle cover’s identity, so there are two parts to the puzzle. One is solving the acrostic, and the other is the identity of the puzzle cover. Good luck!

You know, this whole acrostic thing doesn't seem to work for me the way it worked for Scraps and his Name That Tune game. Just to jump start the game a little, here's the acrostic:

It's all they want to say to you.

    Go get 'em.

  • http://www.yarnivore.com/francis Francis

I don't know, guessing the beginning of the acronym was how I got two of the three covers I figured out. But with the clue I can tell you that the puzzle cover is The Police, “Zenyatta Mondatta”.

    24. The Undertones – The Undertones

  • http://www.bullz-eye.com DavidMedsker

Solving the acrostic is part of the puzzle too, so if you know what it is, by all means say so. The other readers will thank you.

And yes, the Police is correct, as is the Undertones.

    17. Suzi Quatro “If You Knew Suzi”

  • http://dancsblog.blogspot.com Dan C.

Actually, I like that album quite a bit – they were none too kind to them in that post!

  • http://www.bullz-eye.com DavidMedsker

Suzi Quatro is correct. Here are some CLUES for the rest:

    2. Stiff Records band, got substantial airplay in MTV's first year.
    3. There is so little info available on this band (who also received lots of airplay from MTV early on) that i can't tell if the band that emerged in the mid-'80s with the exact same name is them or another band.
    7. Yet another early MTV fave. These guys were American, though.
    14. Come on, look at that hair. And that necklace. Huge clues as to this artist's genre of choice.
    15. Nu rock band that can't spell.
    18. Early '90s dance dude that saw one of his collaborators go on to superstardom.
    19. Rap duo
    22. Another rapper.
