Once their hero finished his set, they just left en masse for the autograph session that the kid had behind the building. I don't think they bought anything. On the other hand Willie Nile, a real artist, sold fifty cds after his set, so he had a good day.

Jack's did participate, as did Tunes in Hoboken, Record Collector in Bordentown, and I think the Princeton Record Exchange. I also went a new store that just opened in Asbury Park called Hold Fast. He has used vinyl and clothes. He didn't even find out about Record Store Day until Friday, but made it a point to get in the spirit. I purchased three vinyl albums from him, for all of $7, and he gave me a choice of a free album to celebrate the day. A small gesture surely, but as I said, in the spirit, and one that will keep me coming back to his store.

I don't think the teenagers contributed to sales at all. I feel less burned, I guess.

Yeah, it was teenfest all over the place and the store staff that was on-hand seemed genuinely PO'ed about it, namely in that all these kids seemed to translate into the same sales they always get. I told the guy at the desk, "Wow, I'm not used to this place being so crowded," and he grimaced as if to say, "Yeah, but what's the point?"

What other stores would have participated? Princeton Record Exchange? Certainly not Jack's. Jack's don't do nothin' EVER.

So there was no free stuff to be had at all. Prices were not cheap, and nothing was given away. They also booked a guy from some teenage emo band called Mayday Parade, and the place was filled with screaming 12 year old girls when I got there. I didn't really feel that the store was in the spirit of things.

I was pretty disappointed in Vintage Vinyl. While I do buy some new vinyl, I really do enjoy hitting the stacks of $1 vinyl, and coming home with 10-20 albums. I check condition briefly before buying, but I'm not anal - for a buck, who cares?

It's allowed me to greatly expand my horizons of musical listening at an affordable price.

I'm the same way.
