You're right, definitely the forebearers of prog. And I always loved Justin Hayward's voice.

Plus, their appearance on "The Simpsons" was money. "Can the poems, it's ass-whupping time!"

I bought this for my mom a couple Christmases ago, and listening to it again I hear the birth of Queen and Muse, at the very least. I listen to it a least once a month, and play it quite a bit for my 3 year old son.

Personally, I could take or leave the Moody Blues, but this album, oh man, this album, is one of my all time favorites. It's called Hold Fast, on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park. He doesn't have that many albums, perhaps 2,000 in the crates at any one time, but what he has is usually and good shape, and I've never left without a bag full of albums. He brings in new stuff at least once a week. He also sells band t-shirts, and in three weeks his basement will be filled with retro pinball machines ($10 flat for 2 hours of play), as well as a performance space for musicians.

Yesterday's gets include:
Rolling Stones - High Tide and Green Grass (unfortunately I just missed a mono copy which he sold that morning.

Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed

Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection (in my opinion his best album)

Stephen Stills - Manassas

The 4 Seasons - Gold Vault of Hits

Total cost? All of $25

I went cratedigging yesterday myself. These days my favorite spot is a new store owned by my friend Joe. I had been, for the longest time, under the impression that one was a greatest hits package and not a full-fledged studio album. Well, I'll be jiggered.

I also picked up Tull's Under Wraps which, judging from the wrath it incurs from the band's fans, is a synth laden mess. Never heard it. I'm scared.

I actually did some cratedigging of my own today and got Warren Zevon's Sentimental Hygiene and The Moodies' The Present. They were recently in Oakland, CA for a concert and I was able to get some tickets for my mom and sister (alas, I couldn't go), and they said the band (minus Ray Thomas, Michael Pindar and Patrick Moraz) was great!

First Malchus and then you doing Moody Blues posts ... I'm thinking a Mix Six feat. the Moody Blues is coming down the pike soon. :-)

Love, love, LOVE the Moody Blues! And "Nights In White Satin"? Maybe I'm a freak, but that song is sexy as hell.

It's a little dated (okay, a lot dated) and is not even close to my favorite Moodies (being Long Distance Voyager,) but damn if it still ain't a fine album for what it is… And “Nights In White Satin”?
