zz has been using tapes since afterburner atleast.it common knowledge with musicians.though i do prefer older grooves like “pearl necklace” and “blue jean blues”,rough boys is still a good song.better than the rest of the album actually.and if you listen closely,its still a blues tune.

this is one of those songs that would be interesting to hear different versions by different artists.someone who can dig down deep into their soul.how about john mayer,paul rogers and slash,dr john would be pretty cool,etc…keep in mind that altleast billy-like clapton,has kept one foot in the blues.

that's off of their 2008 live DVD released by Eagle Vision, Live from Texas, which was also released as a live CD with the exact same audio, minus one tune.

The DVD that everyone needs to know about though is the live DVD that Eagle Vision released THIS year, featuring the classic 1980 Rockpalast performance!

It is insanely awesome.

I'm going with Jon on this one. It's not that “Rough Boy” is terrible; for what it is, it's okay. But you keyed in on the main problem with it, that it could have been anyone. Sure, ZZ Top had found a way of not sounding totally like down-south Seagulls on tunes like “Legs”, “Gimme All Your Lovin'” and such, but this just is blaaah.

This song was what caused the break between me and ZZ. It just made me dig deeper into their early era of blue power-trio I love so much. Velcro Fly maimed my love, Rough Boy drove the stake through my heart.
