Yeah the US national hurricane center doesn't think much of Hanna's chances, apparently. Let's hope that comes to pass. That's a big disparity between european and US models, which might or might not be weird. I don't follow this stuff very much.

Maybe. They're also saying Hanna might hug the East Coast and crawl along it. Not that it will be any better if that happens. Just know that if there's only minimal damage, the oil companies will still be popping champagne corks for continued profiteering.

This is dismaying. But unfortunately for people who'd like to see NOLA hit by hurricanes just to make political points, it appears that Jindal is all over it this time. He's ordering evacs to begin this weekend, buses are en route, plans are taking shape & the national guard is on call. Now if someone can keep Nagin in check they might make through a new disaster.

The real story, imho, is that hurricane Hanna is right on its heels. The ECMWF model just out this morning says Gustav on 9/2 followed by Hanna on 9/7: both New Orleans hits.

Better still, if Gustav hits, the Dems need to go down there en mass and volunteer. That will make more of an impact than any posturing could ever do.

I'm sure the campaign would survive a week or so off the rails under the circumstances.

The Democrats need to avoid overplaying that hand, if indeed Gustav visits N.O. They need not to appear giddy that a new hurricane is placing an exclamation point on Republican incompetence. However, the visual of Obama filling sandbags on the Gulf Coast while Bush, McCain and his running mate are glad-handing in the Twin Cities would be rather indelible. If I were McCain, by the way, I would abandon my VP-fest in Dayton tomorrow and head for the Gulf with some thigh-high boots to cover his $500 shoes.

The Democrats don't need to bother linking Katrina to Bush and McBush – Hurricane Gustav is going to do that for them. It will probably hit the gulf coast on Day 1 of the convention.

My wife has forced me to endure hearing this whole circlejerk as she intends to watch the entire thing on PBS (the only station we get out here in the boonies with no cable) and I tend to think ol Bubba managed enough bumperstickerspeak to keep the tv benumbed generation remembering his speech till at LEAST Labor Day – by which time news media will have found those tapes of him calling John Edwards for phone numbers for new hot babes….
And I was SO GLAD someone FINALLY linked Katrina to McSame and Gollum W Bush – if I were running their media campaign there is NO WAY I would NOT be airing photos of that wonderful share a cake while the Katrina'd drown moment -over and over till it became one of Gollum W's catapult the propaganda things.
In the end tho – they STILL have those sickening 'freedom cages' outside and not one word of protest allowed to peep thru the whoreporate presstitutes' lips…as someone who is a generational legacy of treatys and promises from the Government I think the only difference we will see is these guys will use lubricant…. and who knows, maybe if the middle class is well behaved for a generation or 3 they'll let YOU have some casinos too.
