Yeah, that scene was classic Bond, but didn't it feel like a little much to you? I mean, there's building melodrama and then there's pounding you over the head with it. I thought Forster chose the latter during that sequence.

I thought Quantum of Solace was pretty good, actually. The plot may have been a little muddied but it was a much better entry than any of Brosnan's post-Goldeneye movies. I particularly thought the Opera scene was classic-Bond.

And yes, the theme song was stupid.

I dunno. It wasn't high art the first time around either. And while we're at it, didn't John Lasseter make some grand statement when he was given his Disney position that the company would back off of sequels and 'reboots' and focus on brand new ideas? Guess that didn't work out…

But getting back to Bond, there is a hard core following for the character that has brought the series down over the years. They demanded the bad puns, stupid names and goofy smugness. For decades directors asked to be a part of the franchise, suggested ways of freshening the works, but were told that those die hards wanted the cornball capers and were summarily dismissed. Tarantino's take was too imaginative and Spielberg's rebuff helped get Raiders of the Lost Ark off the ground…

I'm actually kind of excited about the “Tron” sequel. Based on what I've read, they actually might be doing it right.
