The New Speed Racer is awful, they have stolen some very specific effects from the classic series that only carry meaning in the context of a real story line (something this sad excuse lacks in spades), Sponge Bob might as well be driving the Mach 5 for all of the drama this new series claims. I hope that it fails wildly!

Whoa, just because I said the movie was wildly outlandish doesn't mean I didn't like it. I felt the movie was SOOO far removed from the simplicity of the original series that the two of them were different beasts. But I, too, thought it was a lot of fun and felt it kind of got a bad rap upon its release. I think there was too much hype and the critics got pissed off. If I implied differently, I apologize.

I grew up watching “Speed Racer,” and was thrilled when MTV began airing episodes at midnight in the early '90s. I even bought the DVD that was released a few years ago with 5-6 episodes. I'll probably end up getting this set, but I agree with you on “The Next Generation.” It's pretty horrible.

And because I'm such a fan boy of the series, I gotta point out that Speed's younger brother is “Spritle” and not “Spiddle.”

Oh, for Trixie's sake, the Speed Racer movie was a lot of fun, Scott. It was just as daffy and loose as the source cartoon, only it had people instead of drawings, and it had some of the coolest special effect zing available this year. Why is it I hear so much trash talk about a movie that's essentially for kids, has a positive message (family first), and looks great on my 1080p flat screen?
