Tarantino's characters largely exist in a stylized movie universe of his own, whereas Stillman's are more grounded and "real world" (though, he, too, dismisses "reality"). That, or I just don't find him as witty or insightful as others do, and maybe I should.

It may be more a matter of how they're talking than what they're talking about. After all, everybody thinks Quentin Tarantino is a great dialogue writer and there ain't nobody, NOBODY, that talks like that.

Stillman's overall mannerly approach is distracting to me, but the dialogue has never been a problem. If you love the movie, though, I guarantee you'll love the disc, for the fine commentary as much as anything else.

Maybe someday I'll get more on Stillman's wavelength. We pull it out at least once a year and we've forced most of our friends to watch it, too. No one else seems to love it as much as we do, however. I hear complaints that the dialogue is unrealistic but I find it enchanting. There are some great scenes and individual lines ("Well, you do have a gay mouth") and the music does, as you said, give the movie some drive. Thanks for the review!

This movie is an all-time favorite for me and my wife.
