I lay there racking my brain trying to remember the songs from McGoos Christmas and was suprised at how much I could recall as I haven't watched it in years. But I remember as a little girl, being moved to tears by Ebinezar as a little boy in the empty schoolroom singing All Alone in the World. "Where are the shoes to click to my clack"....still makes me want to cry!

Last night I went to bed thoroughly dissapointed after watching the new animated Jim Carrey version which, though far superior technically, lacks all the heart and soul of the story.<br

Its songs came from the music-and-lyrics writing team of Jule Styne and Bob Merrill… who would go on, shortly, to do the same job for Funny Girl. (I watched the show a little while ago, and have to say that the music holds up pretty well. Or maybe that’s just the rose-colored view of nostalgia?) You can listen to MP3s of the songs at the Popdose site, in a recent post by DW Dunphy. [...]

[...] Most importantly, there’s the music. Did you know there is a newly published book detailing the creation of this great animated special, with all kinds of art and behind the scenes photographs? It's called Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol: The Making of the First Animated Christmas Special, written by animation historian Darrell Van Citters. I wrote about it on my blog: http://jimattulgeywood.blogspot.com/
I also posted the TV Guide ad/coverage from the original 1962 broadcast. Thank you---JIM

Thanks for your perceptive thoughts on this overlooked Christmas classic.
