Dammit - i'm going to age myself here.

At least Two Tone Ska was only one generation removed from the Kingston slums when this Ottawa boy jumped on that bandwagon four or five years late (1983).

This is probably the only No Doubt song I actually enjoy. The soundtrack CD's not bad either.

I do remember The Urge - though I never saw them live a friend of mine used to play their song "Goin' to the Liquor Store" whenever we went to the um, grocery store.

I was way into ska in the 90s. I just posted a blog about The Urge, whom you may remember. A side note... there's a burgeoning ska scene in San Antonio.

Oh, and mentioning Hammurabi now has shoved They Might Be Giants back into my brain... "We're the Mesapotamians / Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal and Gilgamesh"

I know what you're saying. There is only one song off Fishbone's immortal debut EP that is truly Ska ("Party At Ground Zero") while the majority of the album was funk and rock. Of course, Fishbone was more in the Ska realm than most, but they were capable of a lot more and never really got the recognition they deserved for versatility.
