I was almost 14, and for me and my listening habits, it was the moment when things went from black and white to Technicolor. As I listen back to this music, listening for Danny's keys in particular, it hits home how much his work held the songs together.

The one I can't quite stop listening to right now is "Independence Day," which starts with his organ and an acoustic guitar, and that organ line runs through the whole song, bringing the listener back to the sad riff, underpinning the sadness of the lyrics. It's exquisite. Without that organ, it's a lesser song, a lesser moment.

So subtle was Danny's gift, I don't think most people truly appreciate what Springsteen and his music lost this week.

Rob
EightE1

Been listening to some of my favorite Springsteen the last couple days, thinking about how many moments in my life have had that music as its soundtrack since June of '84, when my cousin brought his Camaro down to Long Beach Island with Born in the USA in the tape deck (sounds like a cliche, yeah, but it really happened).
