Found On Vol. 4. New Music From Delta Rae, Burning Condors, The Phantom Light, Carousel and Show Me Island

Welcome to another volume of Found On… Every week I’ll search Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Noise Trade, Spotify, YouTube and other music sites for new-ish, under-the-radar music that I like, which I in turn share with you. You might like it or you might hate it. You never know.

Sometimes I search for new music and sometime new music falls right into my lap. Such is the case with Delta Rae. I was working a video freelance gig at Summerfest and unknown to me, we were scheduled to record an acoustic performance with the band. So I had the wrong equipment. It didn’t faze Delta Rae — they knocked the performance out of the park.

They are Seymour Stein approved. Their debut album, Carry the Fire, is out now. The video for the first single, “Bottom of the River,” is stunning.

Next up is Burning Condors, who come to us via the UK. A garage band in every since of the word. Youthful exuberance gives the band a certain charm — reminds me a bit of a rough-around-the-edges Jake Bugg.

Show Me Island is a ska band from Utah. They are also a fine example of bands using social media to their benefit. I stumbled upon them on Bandcamp and shared via Twitter to a couple ska-loving friends; the band found that tweet and started following me. How was I not going to write about them now?

The Phantom Light are a dreamy indie-pop band from South Wales. I like what I hear so far.

Johnny Makes Music sounds like it could have been released in the late ’80s early ’90s as a part of the mopey, Cure-like music Britain was giving us at the time. His voice is just outstanding.

Carousel is minimalistic dance pop. Simple and sweet.

That’s it for this week. Leave your love, hate, or general thoughts on the bands I found in the comments. And if you know of any bands I should feature, let me know. You can find me on Twitter @dwalsh76.
