It’s never too early to get a jump start on promoting your next album, and in that spirit, the Fray — who won’t release their new CD, Scars & Stories, until February — are releasing the album’s leadoff single, “Heartbeat,” right now. You can purchase it from your favorite digital retailer or just stream it right here:

Heartbeat by The Fray

Scars & Stories was produced by Brendan O’Brien and recorded at Nashville’s Blackbird Studios. Lead singer Isaac Slade, who apparently speaks with as much super-inflated melodrama as he sings, says “Heartbeat” was inspired by a chance encounter with a woman during a South African sojourn: “I ended up meeting so many cool and inspiring people, and all these ideas for lyrics and melodies just started rushing in…I felt so connected to her. I couldn’t tell if it was her pulse or mine.”

I’m a Fray fan, and glad to see them working with O’Brien. There will always be a Fray sound, but I like Brendan’s twist on it.

The second I heard “Heartbeat” I was reminded of just how much I love this band (a lot. I love them a lot.) I’m thinking that with “Scars and Stories,” the guys pulled out all the stops. I predict it’s going to be their most personal and powerful album yet. :D Impressed with the video for “Heartbeat” too!
