Although The Band was mostly Canadians, Levon Helm is from Arkansas and he claims "Dixie" was inspired by stories he shared with Robbie Robertson (even though Robertson received sole writing credit). I'm not sure what Billy Bragg's contributions were to the song with Wilco song (an outtake from the Woddy Guthrie "Mermaid Avenue" sessions), but his presence feels minimal.
