I haven’t been writing every day lately, on account of a few things:

1. Summer = disruption of my carefully constructed schedule
2. Full-time self-employment = less time for aimless blathering
3. Six-year-old Boy in the house = less energy

But the main thing that has kept me from updating as regularly as I’d like is that it’s been SO FUCKING HOT. Over 100 degrees for about the past week. Every time I sit down to write, the thoughts in my head sound something like this:

sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap sweat sun hate fuck shit piss crap

Actually, that felt sort of good to write. Maybe I’ll just keep doing that. Anyway, in the meantime, and in the spirit of urging the coming of fall and winter, here’s a free anti-summer download. It’s from an a performer who I think is wonderful live, but a tad uneven on record: Scott Miller. A one-time member of the Steve Earle-produced V-Roys, he’s a neo-trad folkie, and this particular tune comes from his album Thus Always to Tyrants:

Scott Miller – Goddamn the Sun
