I just saw a movie that actually made me think. The main theme of the movie was artificial insemination but not the way we know it happens. They managed to store a civilization's knowledge with an artifical intelligent robot that was seeking a compatible planet with their life style. When the planet was found the inseminating device which travelled through space landed on the planet and started the process.
