Mike Portnoy fans may not agree, but the tracks that have been trickling out from Dream Theater’s newest, A Dramatic Turn Of Events, finds the group gelling fairly well around new drummer Mike Mangini.A Dramatic Turn of Events leans heavier on their heavy-prog side and, if that is carried through the rest of the disc, the recording might be their most enjoyable, and least confused, effort in a while. Time will tell (and that would be on its release date, September 13), but in the meantime, here’s a taste with the track “On The Backs Of Angels.”

You’re right about this being one of their “least confused” songs. You know I do like my prog rock, but Dream Theater has never been a favorite of mine. That being said, I do like this song quite a lot.
