[...] Last week’s column opened by noting that, when you hear the name “Don Dixon,” you’re probably more likely to think of him in terms of his production career than for his accomplishments as a singer and songwriter. Although I followed this observation by noting that this tendency gets really annoying for those who’ve lived and loved to Dixon’s albums over the years, I also clarified that it should in no way be taken as a dismissal of his production work; the guy has had his hands on some of the best albums of the ’80s and ’90s, some of which you may have forgotten about. But, hey, that’s what I’m here for… [...]

I knew Don and Marti back in the day when they were favorites of ours at WGTBin Georgetown. They became good friends with my good friends, Andy Law and Katie Rentel, the station's program director and general manager respectively. I think they even attended their wedding. Truly good folks.

If you're looking for Don and Marti music, a while back, I downloaded a few things off of http://www.efolkmusic.org/ – including tracks from Don and Marti's first collaboration "Unsophisticated Time." I also downloaded a great Dixon classic called "The Night That Otis Died."

I've got every one one of Marti's major label albums – most only on vinyl, but the RCA release "Any Kind of Lie" on CD. She really was ahead of her time.
