I was a guitarist in my 20s at the time and was fairly new to Christian music in general. I was a little upset when we both went to the youth praise and worship and we were sort of brushed aside even though we probably were the most experienced in music and the one running the P&W group didn't even play an instrument but just liked being the boss. Well after they shunned him and didn't like his ideas he quit and I did the same shortly therafter once we did this outreach concert. I learned saxophone just for this outreach and did well but I was into jazz like Coltrane and Miles Davis at the time and playing pop CCM was too bland for me.

I remember back in 1994/1995 an older guy in his 50s that played guitar turned me onto Keaggy and the other 70s CCM artists like Randy Stonehill and more contemporary versions of their style like Russ Taft and Clay Crosse. I would recommend a Christian band from the early 70's called Love Song. Phil Keaggy was actually a member for a short time, though he never recorded with them (at least nothing that was released). The band was led by Chuck Girard, who was a member a couple of 60's bands that had hits, including the Hondells. They were great band. Great music is great music...regardless of the religion it might be pushing.

I found a user made YouTube video for the title track to the bandss first album:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3r7AADHt0go

This site has short clips from almost all of the songs on their two albums:

http://www.one-way.org/lovesong/chuksong.htm

Thanks for this…I have always loved Phil's music.
