This show was okay the first couple of weeks, but the writers seem to rely on the same tactics week after week. I'm already tired of the "AHA" moments in each episode where some tiny imperceptible facial expression gives away the criminal. YAWWWWN. And I thought "Ghost Whisperer" was predictable.

I love "Deadliest Catch." And Tim Roth.

If Quentin Tarantino would direct Tim Roth in an episode of "Deadliest Catch," I would die a very happy man.

When the idea for this column was still taking shape, and Jeff and I were first kicking around possible approaches, I wrote a set of dummy ledes for a notional piece about Ice Road Truckers, segueing into a broader riff on the whole “blue collar dangerous” subgenre, of which Deadliest Catch is the biggest and most successful example. Those notes were lost in a hard-drive crash, but it’s a good bet I’ll return to the topic at some point. It’s not on the schedule for the immediate future, but it’s still at the back of my mind.

I can't disagree with anything that you said in this article. I figured out early that the show is based on exposing facial tics, portrayed by actors who study how to lie for a living, with facial tics.

Having said that, however, I really like Tim Roth and that hasn't changed so far. I'm willing to give it a little more time, but it might end up as a 'love to hate it' show. Then again, it's getting really hard to keep saying the same thing about the forensically absurd CSI:NY, but I'm kinda pot-committed at this point.

Who here is a fan of "Deadliest Catch?" I've been trying to figure out why it's such a cultural thing.

I should hate this show for, like, 17 reasons, the biggest of which kelli williams is beautiful yet soulless...just like she was in The Practice.

And Lightman character is over the top. Yet it is strangely compelling.

Comic illo's are fantastic & great supporting material.

It was cross-posted in both Music and Television, actually. It was surprise to me, too - I believe it was Mine Gracious Editor's doing. All I can think is it's because the piece mentions Johnny Fucking Cash.

I just writes 'em, man; everything that happens after is all jibber-jabber and black magic, so far as I know.
