There are a few passages of squelchy, clanky noise on the album – you can hear a little of it on “Where I Bleed” – that I guess is supposed to constitute a Nne Inch Nails influence. Or maybe it's the self-incriminatory lyrics – though again, that angle seemed more The The than NIN. Maybe it's the accent.

Normally I do too (which makes it kind of odd I gave one myself) – but usually just because they are so outlandish. I wouldn't mind them so much if they were close. Granted, there's only two songs here, so who knows – but there's no NIN in either of those songs – so how can they be a comparison? Way too many one-sheets have this crap in it.

That said, I didn't mind the songs posted that much at all.

I hate those “X meets Y” formulations, myself; they're a distraction. I can see where they're useful in giving the listener a general handle on what to expect, but really, they're part of the packaging – and like most packaging, they're disposable once you're actually using the product. I've listened to the Livan record two or three times in full, and already, it just sounds like Livan to me.

The look and the sound remind me a little of Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil. I hear no NIN nor any Clash – but I wouldn't throw out Billy Idol meets Midnight Oil – I mean those first few bars of “Happy Returns” sound a lot like “Dancing with Myself” which transforms into Deisel and Dust.
