"Legend has already — though the year is scarce half-over — been branded by several critics as the worst film of 2009."

I think what's happening here is that something new, at least new to me, has happened with film critics: they've become a horrific echo chamber. Look at the recent poopstorms over Terminator: Salvation and Transformers 2...people were either critiquing them as if they were HIGH ART and ripping them to shreds or they were parroting the "party line" that the movie sucked.

Trust me, neither Terminator or Transformers was a great film but they were well done for what they were: popcorn movies. Sure, you could see where they took Terminator and glommed Christian Bale on to it, but, it had stuff blow up and robots and such. Transformers the same thing, it fit the bill of what it was.

Now, Wolverine for example seemed to get a pass and it was worse than both of those films, even if I still enjoyed it. Bad CGI, ridiculous stunts, etc. and a really bad script, yet it got a pass because the knives were out for Terminator.

And what about Star Trek, which I loved? Why were the glaring plotholes, etc overlooked for that one and I'm hearing talk of it potentially being a Best Picture candidate?

Don't get me wrong, I loved Star Trek but a Best Picture. Really!?!?!

And @DwDunphy: I think I had a small stroke when I read the announcement of the Asteroids film.

It's gotta be better than the upcoming Asteroids movie.

You heard me. Universal Pictures presents Atari's Asteroids: The Movie - spinning like a triangle to a theater near you in the summer of 2011.
