I do think it's funny how "dada" is considered a first word. "Mama," maybe -- I'm from the south, and I call my mother Mama to this day. But nobody calls their father "Dada" past the age of 1.8, do they? (I apologize in advance if I've offended any Irish people with a stuttering problem.)

I'm with you. I've got a 9 month old girl, and she's on the da-da-da-da-da-da sound. Everyone around me seems to think it's okay to encourage that. I do not.

"mamamama" is fine for Mama, or Ma. But Dadadadada is very confusing.

I'm trying to encourage Papa.

Supposebly it's better to encourage children than to discourage them, but nobody complains when I keep her away from electric sockets.
