PEOPLE had a HUGE hit in Chicago with their take on the Zombies' "I Love You" back in 1968 (was top 20 nationwide but top five on Chicago rock powerhouses WLS and WCFL), and it still gets significant airplay on oldies and classic rock stations.

"And I don't know what to say" except rest in peace, Larry.

"Six Sixty Six" appeared on the first Catholics disc. Both Black and Sufjan come from backgrounds where they could be influenced by CCM, so I'm inclined to believe their tributes are well intentioned.

Nonetheless, other sites are solely playing up this aspect of Norman and that was a primary reason for my omission.

There was a moment I was going to add the Frank Black / Isaac Brock angle, but that was played up to the hilt on other sites. Norman had a profound effect on his own corner of music and now that corner is as accepted as any other. Quite a different thing than when he started!

Good tributes, although I'm surprised to see no mention of the huge influence Norman seems to have had on musicians not usually associated with Christian rock, such as Isaac Brock or Frank Black. Also, I couldn't help but hear Sufjan Stevens in a song like "I Wish We'd All Been Ready"....

I have and do still from time to time listen to a bit of CCM. I'm familiar with who Larry Norman is but can't say I've listened to a ton of his music. I know DC Talk paid tribute to him by doing one of his songs "I Wish We'd All Been Ready."
Frank Black of all people is also supposed to be a fan of Norman's. He covered one of his songs on one of his solo cd's and I believe he appeared at a Norman benefit concert or something a few years back.
